Scam Alert: Cryptocurrency Investment Scheme Aimed at Stealing Real Money and Personal Data
02:23:00 | 10-11-2025

Taking advantage of Resolution No. 05/2025/NQ-CP on piloting the digital asset market, issued on September 9, 2025, cybercriminals have created fake online trading platforms to entice people to “invest in government-licensed cryptocurrencies.” They forge documents bearing fake red seals and illegally use logos of state management agencies to gain investors’ trust.

At the beginning, to lure more participants and encourage larger investments, these online platforms often pay real interest. However, after attracting large sums of money from victims, they suddenly lock user accounts or disappear, leaving investors with substantial losses.

In addition to financial damage, victims also face the risk of having their personal data collected, including ID documents, phone numbers, bank accounts, and e-wallet information.

According to experts from Bkav, these fake cryptocurrency investment websites or apps often contain viruses or malicious code, or require users to perform dangerous actions on their devices. Once executed, these can compromise the system, allowing hackers to steal data and potentially cause financial loss and exposure of sensitive information.

Up to now, Vietnam has not licensed any digital asset trading platform. Therefore, people must be extremely cautious with projects falsely claiming to be “approved” or “supported by the Government.”

To avoid falling victim to cryptocurrency investment scams, users are advised to:

Verify information only through official channels of the Government, the State Bank of Vietnam, or the Ministry of Public Security.

Do not transfer money or provide personal information to any project claiming to be “approved” or promising unusually high profits.

Be cautious with unknown websites or applications: do not click “allow,” do not copy and paste commands, and do not download apps from strange links. These actions can easily infect your device with viruses or malware, leading to financial loss and data theft.

If you have already clicked on or downloaded such apps, immediately disconnect from the Internet and change your passwords from a secure device.

Bkav experts emphasize that users should scan their systems with professional antivirus software, as built-in security solutions bundled with operating systems are designed only for basic protection and are insufficient against modern ransomware and advanced persistent malware designed to stay hidden and deeply embedded in the system.
