The “holiday prize scam” during April 30 – May 1: Victims’ bank accounts emptied within minutes

Recently, many people have continuously received calls from unfamiliar numbers such as 02928.992… and 0248.992…, informing them that they had “won prizes” or would “receive gifts” on the occasion of the April 30 – May 1 holiday, along with instructions to complete a few simple steps for confirmation. However, this is a carefully staged scam scenario.

The scammers impersonate bank employees, e-commerce platforms, or major brands, then lure victims into accessing fake websites with interfaces nearly identical to official sites.

There, users are asked to enter personal information, bank account details, passwords, and OTP codes in order to “claim rewards.” As soon as this information is provided, the account may be taken over and all money withdrawn within just a few minutes.

According to Bkav experts, in addition to the risk of losing money from bank accounts, users may also have personal information exposed, such as phone numbers, account numbers, identification details, and login data. This information can later be exploited for other scam scenarios, creating long-term risks.

To avoid unnecessary risks, people should:

  • Absolutely never provide OTP codes, passwords, or bank account information via phone calls, messages, or suspicious links.
  • Do not access or install applications from unclear sources.
  • Only conduct verification and transactions through official banking channels.
  • If unusual signs are detected, immediately lock the account via the banking application or hotline and report the case to the authorities.
