Recently, information has appeared on several social media platforms claiming that the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) plans to eliminate currency denominations from VND 1,000 to VND 5,000. However, the SBV has affirmed that such information is inaccurate and has no legal basis.

The issuance, management, and circulation of Vietnamese currency are carried out by the SBV in strict accordance with the law, ensuring that the payment needs of the economy are fully met, aligned with practical social conditions, and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of citizens and businesses. Any monetary policy changes, if made, will be publicly and transparently announced through official channels by the competent authorities, and cannot merely appear as rumors circulating on social media.

Organizations and individuals are advised not to post, share, or disseminate inaccurate information regarding the alleged removal of VND 1,000 to VND 5,000 denominations. Violations will be handled in accordance with the law.

Bkav experts also recommend that citizens exercise heightened caution toward unverified information on social media to avoid being misled, psychologically manipulated, or exploited for fraudulent purposes. People should only obtain information from official authorities and reputable press outlets to ensure their own safety in cyberspace.
