Warning: Four groups of Citizen ID information that scammers always target

In recent months, authorities have repeatedly warned about scams involving information taken from Vietnam’s Citizen ID cards (CCCD). With only a leaked photo of a CCCD, criminals can register loans, open bank accounts under someone else’s name, or conduct illegal transactions, causing the impersonated victim to suffer financial loss and reputational damage.

There are four highly sensitive groups of information on the Citizen ID card that must be strictly protected:

Citizen ID number and personal identification code:
A unique sequence directly tied to administrative procedures and financial transactions.

Personal information:
Full name, date of birth, hometown, and permanent address, which criminals can exploit to create fake identities.

QR code on the card:
Contains complete personal data and may be scanned or copied without authorization.

Fingerprint and biometric data:
Highly sensitive information that, if compromised, can lead to risks in financial transactions and electronic authentication.

Bkav experts advise citizens to limit sharing photos of their CCCD, avoid providing personal information to strangers or unverified organizations, and regularly monitor bank accounts and online services. Upon detecting or suspecting data leakage, individuals should immediately report it to the police and keep relevant evidence for verification.

Protecting CCCD information helps prevent financial loss and reputational harm, and also stops criminals from exploiting stolen data for impersonation or fraudulent activities.
