In recent days, taking advantage of the nationwide implementation of the two-tier local government model from July 1, 2025, scammers have impersonated government authorities, sending messages or making phone calls to trick people into “updating VNeID information” to match new administrative addresses. They send fake links and applications, luring users into logging in and submitting personal data, OTP codes, etc., in order to steal money and personal information.
According to Bkav experts, in addition to the “VNeID update” scenario, attackers are also deploying various other schemes, such as: requesting “electricity contract updates” or “maintenance and inspection fees” allegedly due to address changes by power companies. Once victims transfer money or disclose their information, the scammers quickly appropriate their assets and personal data before disappearing.
Bkav strongly warns the public not to click on suspicious links or install applications from unverified sources. Absolutely do not provide personal information, OTP codes, or banking credentials to anyone via phone calls or text messages. Upon receiving unusual requests, individuals should contact police, local authorities, or power companies directly through official hotlines for verification.
Stay alert. Do not share personal information indiscriminately. Do not let criminals exploit administrative changes to carry out fraud and steal assets.
