Impersonating TikTok to Offer “Zero-Cost Gifts” and Steal Assets

Scammers are impersonating TikTok staff, making phone calls to inform users that they have "luckily won a prize" and will receive a free gift. To claim the gift, the “lucky user” is required to pay a shipping fee or an order processing fee in advance. The scam targets people’s desire for free items, and with the requested amount being relatively small—only from a few tens to a few hundred thousand VND—many let their guard down and casually make the transfer.

As soon as the money is successfully transferred, the scammers cut off contact and disappear. Of course, there is no such gift, and the victim’s money is lost with no way to recover it.

Experts advise:

Do not transfer money to any individual or organization requesting a fee to receive a “zero-cost gift.”
If you have to pay upfront, it is not a free gift.
