WhiteHat Grand Prix 06: To find vulnerabilities on important information systems

Hanoi, December 6, 2019 - The 6th WhiteHat Grand Prix global cyber security competition will not only have traditional Jeopardy, Attack/Defense formats like previous ones, but also have the Private Bug Bounty, finding vulnerabilities in popular software and important information systems in Vietnam. With this, in addition to the highest prize worth VND 230 million, teams also have the opportunity to get additional bounties per bug they find.

This year, WhiteHat Grand Prix is officially guaranteed by the Vietnam Ministry of Information and Communications, co-organized by the Authority of Information Security (Vietnam Ministry of Information and Communications) and Bkav Corporation.

Sharing about the competition, Mr. Nguyen Huy Dung - Director of the Authority of Information Security said: “WhiteHat Grand Prix 06 is expected to maintain a strong attraction to international teams. The competition has contributed to realize the goal of building Vietnam into a hub of ASEAN for sharing cyber security information, gradually turning Vietnam into a power in cyber security”.

Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Head of the Challenge Authors shared: “The special feature of this year competition is that for the first time the Final Round has the Private Bug Bounty, which simulates important information systems, providing popular software for teams to find vulnerabilities. From discovered flaws, the Organizers will support organizations and enterprises to patch the vulnerabilities, ensuring the safety of Vietnam's network system”.

The challenges of the WhiteHat Grand Prix 06 are created by the Vietnam cyber security community with the participation of the Authority of Information Security, cyber security training facilities and enterprises in the country.

An interesting point of WhiteHat Grand Prix is that every year the competition has carried a message about the country and the people of Vietnam, presented to teams via every challenge they solve. With the theme of Vietnam Today, the Organizers of WhiteHat Grand Prix 06 will introduce a modern Vietnam on the rise with achievements of culture, economics, science and technique, etc.

The Qualifier of WhiteHat Grand Prix 06 takes place continuously online in 24 hours from 9:00 (UTC +7) on January 04 to 9:00 January 05, 2020 to find Top 10 teams. The Final Round is expected to take place in middle February 2020 in Hanoi, finding the best 3 teams to win the first, second and third prizes. The First Prize is worth VND 230 million (approximately USD 10,000), the Second and Third prizes worth VND 45 million (approximately USD 2,000) and VND 23 million (approximately USD 1,000) respectively. In addition, teams also have the opportunity to get additional bounties per bug they find.

WhiteHat Grand Prix was first held at the national level in 2014 and began to expand globally since 2015. This is a rare competition organized by Vietnam that is highly appreciated in the world cyber security community, attracting the participation of many leading teams from developed countries such as the US, Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, etc. WhiteHat Grand Prix has also witnessed the growth of Vietnam cyber security experts when it won the first prize for the first time (CLGTftMeePwn in 2017) after many years occupying the overwhelming number of teams in the Final Round. The reigning champion of WhiteHat Grand Prix is ​​now LC1BC from Russia.
